LIBRARY AUTOMATION
The Central Library is automated with open source integrated library management software KOHA. It is a web based international standard library management software. Its main strength is its web accessibility and ease of use. It supports all library house-keeping activities such as Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serial Control, Patron Management, and OPAC (Online public access catalogue).
KOHA also supports Web 2.0 tools. It has an upgraded version of the library catalogue which includes improvement in search & retrieval, link to Google cover images, contents, enables print options and exports search results in different formats. It is updated with new features frequently.
Students have an added advantage like :
- Search and retrieve
- Search history is saved for future use.
- Your reading history is saved by default.
- Print or save in different bibliographic format.
- Sort or refine search results by title/author/year of publication.
- Cover image of books fetched from Google books can be viewed.
- Make a private list of books of your interest for ready reference.
- Rate the book based on its usability by users.
- It is user friendly.
Web OPAC :
Web OPAC service is also provided where the users can search the collection of books by title, author, publisher etc. Barcode technology is implemented at the circulation counter. The Open Access system in our library facilitates quick and better access to the books. The books are classified according to Dewey decimal classification.
