Welcome to The Central Library of Visakha Government Degree College For Women, Visakhapatnam. Central Library is housed with all modern amenities and is situated in a magnificent building newly constructed under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan in 2017. It spreads in an area of 262.6sq ft. The Library is equipped with fire alarm and CCTV surveillance. It is situated very close to the science block and is easily accessible to all students and staff from all departments.
The collection includes both print and electronic e-resources. Print resources include text books and reference books, journals, magazines, CD/DVD's, maps, newspapers and audio e-books in a wide range of subjects such as English literature, Telugu and Hindi, Biological sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Computer Sciences, Social Sciences like History, Economics, Political Sciences, Social Work, Women Studies, Psychology, Education, Competitive Books and Personality Development Books. Library collections are classified as per the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
Central Library provides access to e-resources through N-LIST (National Library Information services and Infrastructure for scholarly content) of INFLIBNET. It also has membership from DELNET (Developing Library Network) that provides access to Union Catalogue as well as other e-databases from member libraries, e-books, e-journals, e-manuscripts and Inter Library Loan services. Central Library has contributed its Library records created in machine readable form for merging in DELNET Discovery Portal that is accessible 24x7 by its member libraries of DELNET. It has received Certificate of Appreciation under “DELNET Best Practices for Data sharing and Accessibility” enhancing information sharing and accessibility of library resources among the users of the member-institutions and promoted its contributions for making a Digital India.
Our institution has registered for National Digital Library where the students can have access to 85,047,596 e-resources like e- books, e journals and e- databases.
The Central Library has a Digital Library with ten systems that provides open access to the research publications of our staff in a single location. Three systems are installed with JAWS Talking Screen Reader software for the Blind students. This software converts the normal PC into Talking PC to enable a blind student to operate the computer independently in either in English or in local regional languages.
The Central Library remains open for 255 days of the year from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on all working days as well as during semester examinations.
